North Norfolk Coast

Location and habitat of the Special Protection Area (SPA):
The North Norfolk Coast SPA encompassess much of the northern coastline of the county Norfolk in eastern England. It is a low-lying barrier coast that extends for 40 km from Holme to Weybourne and includes a great variety of coastal habitats.

Why is North Norfolk SPA so important?

The main habitats - found along the whole coastline - include extensive interidal sand- and mud-flats, saltmarshes, shingle and sand dunes, together with areas of freshwater grazing marsh and reedbed, which has developed in front of rising land. The site contains some of the best examples of saltmarsh in Europe.

Who owns it and how is it used?
The North Norfolk Coast SPA is used mainly for recreation and conservation. the land it contains is owned by various NGOs, including the RSPB and the Norfolk Wildlife Trusts; large private landownerssuch as Holkham Estate; and the Crown.

All the Project LOTE work will take place on land owned by the RSPB at it's Titchwell nature reserve.
